If you have kids, odds are you have at least one TV in the house. This can raise some issues when it comes to safety and discipline! A TV lift can help ensure that your little ones are safe and that your almost-adults still abide by your television viewing rules!

Safety

There’s nothing safer than an in-ceiling TV lift when it comes to toddlers! A lift that extends down from the ceiling serves several purposes – it keeps your little viewers from mashing their noses against the screen until their eyes cross, and also eliminates any chance of them tugging a piece of furniture with a TV on top over on their heads! In addition, a ceiling mounted television keeps cords away from little hands, and when viewing time is over the TV folds up and away – out of sight, out of mind.

Discipline

For teens, the perennial argument about how many hours a day is allowable can be a forgotten battle. TV lift furniture with a remote can let you maintain control – simply hand over the remote when homework is done so they can raise the screen and enjoy some downtime – and collect the remote later to shut the television off and return it to storage until the next day. Also, no more sneaky late night marathons of horror flicks resulting in nightmares and droopy eyes at the breakfast table!

Ask our team about TV lift solutions for your kids’ rooms and family areas.

A TV lift could be the answer to a serious issue. Don’t believe us? Take in this possible scenario:

You’ve just moved into your new home and the master bedroom is unbelievably massive. The bed goes against one wall, you’ve got room for a chaise lounge against another wall, and there’s even a spot in one corner for your exercise bike.

There’s just one little problem. Where do you put the TV?

A) Facing the chaise lounge for Sunday afternoon watching of Law and Order marathons.

B) At the foot of the bed so you can snuggle up for the latest episode of Doctor Who.

C) Angled towards the exercise bike to force yourself to cycle while you watch your soaps.

Wouldn’t it be nice if you didn’t have to choose? A swivel TV lift lets you place your TV in the most convenient location, then aim it the piece of furniture you wish to view it from at any given time.

The lift can be installed in a cabinet that is attractive and matches the rest of your bedroom décor. It also allows you to hide the TV when not in use, and can even feature a stationary cabinet top that allows the TV more room to turn underneath it without the corner of the top hitting the wall behind it.

Contact us to learn more about how a swivel TV lift can allow you to enjoy your television from anywhere in the room, no matter where you put it!

The debate has raged for decades – should you have a TV in your bedroom or not? If you do, what are the effects it can have on your relationship with your significant other? Come to think – what happens when a diehard “always-falls- asleep-with-the-TV-on” person and a “no-TV-in-the-bedroom-period” person get together?

Since over 85% of US households DO have a television in the master bedroom, a TV lift could help provide a way to compromise. If the TV is kept put away, and you have to activate the lift to bring it out, turning on the TV when you enter the room is less likely – cutting down on extra noise and distractions in a space that should be intimate and calming.

When you have to make an active choice to start watching TV, you have an extra few seconds to consider what your choices are – do you crash out and vegetate, lost in the world of “Castle” or fixated with the latest episode of “The Voice” – or do you spend some time talking to or cuddling with your spouse?

As in any relationship, communication is key. Talk about TV time in the bedroom, and lay some ground rules that are acceptable to both parties. Maybe that show that comes on at 11 PM can be DVRd for watching the next day, and watched together instead of one person falling asleep half-way through. You could even set a TV “curfew” to guarantee some special one-on-one time before you both get too tired for “blanket wresting!”

If he’s planning on staying up late and watching the game but she needs sleep to be ready for that big meeting in the morning, there’s an easy solution if you have a lift . The TV lift can be rotated to face a chair on the other side of the room, and headphones hooked to the stereo system ensure he doesn’t miss a play while she gets much needed shut-eye!

A TV lift in the bedroom has other benefits as well. Studies show that artificial lights from electronic devices can disrupt sleep and even cause sleep disorders. A TV lift in the bedroom enables you to get rid of even the little “sleep mode” power light and enjoy blissful darkness while you snooze.

Consider installing a hidden TV lift in your bedroom, and see if it doesn’t make a difference. You might be surprised at how well you and your loved one are able to connect when TV viewing becomes a choice instead of a habit!

Ever seen a TV in a church? Of course if you’ve been to a mega church, you know plenty of congregations use television monitors to allow parishioners to get an up close and personal view of the pastor or choir even if they are far from the pulpit – and don’t forget Texas, where you can still go to church on SuperBowl Sunday and not miss the pre-game.

Some more reasons a television might be a great addition to a place of worship would be to play video of the mission team doing work in a far country, or to display the lyrics to songs so everyone can follow along. However, some might be concerned that having a television set just sitting out next to the altar might be a bit tacky.

Not to worry – a TV lift can provide the perfect storage solution for a church television, allowing it to be brought out when it is needed and hidden from sight when it’s not.

See this gorgeous TV cabinet on stage at Embrace Church in Sioux Falls, SD. The dark finished cabinet with the cross motif blends in perfectly and no-one would even know a TV was inside until the unit is required!

We thought we were pretty clever helping homeowners hide TVs in any room in the house. But the guys at Creative Home Engineering know how to hide a whole room! Check out the photo-rich article at Twisted Sifter showing 35 hidden passageways and compartments. We appreciate the creativity of hiding doorways in plain sight as well as the excellent craftsmanship involved. The concept used to conceal doors in stonework is a touch you could use for a floating lid on a TV lift as well. It would camouflage the lid even better than usual to have the edges follow the natural contours between the stones in the façade. In a way, we like to think of our TV lifts as hidden passageways to another realm too. Just push the button and get lost in “The Life of Pi” or the latest HBO special.

Does this compendium of hidden rooms spark any ideas for other stuff to hide in your home? Let us know in the comments.

The flicker of the fire plus the flicker from the TV screen equals one night of perfectly cozy entertainment! Check out this example sent by a customer who installed their TV close to their hearth. Some homeowners like their lift to really blend in, but this project shows how a cabinet that really stands out can be an outstanding choice. Check out those hinges! We also like other touches such as:

The louvers on the front panels that enhance ventilation for components kept inside the cabinet

The bookshelf behind the cabinet that makes excellent use of vertical storage space

The white painted finish that brightens the fireplace area – it’s a nice change from a hearth of stone

(OK, we’ll stop with the hearth/heart puns and just let you enjoy the video).

Brick and stone are popular facings for outdoor kitchen cabinets with stainless steel doors. But sometimes, the cabinets need to stand alone without a decorative façade. That’s especially cost-effective and practical for construction and design firms that are doing a large job – such as an outdoor entertainment area at a condo or resort that will need to accommodate multiple guests. Properly treated steel is also easy to maintain in humid environments where stone and grout might discolor or grow mildew.

Preferred Properties sent us this image of one of their projects that features a heavy duty metal kitchen in a lakefront application. The completed installation boasts more than 36 linear feet of outdoor powder coated cabinetry. It’s all topped with marble, which adds elegance to keep the kitchen from looking too utilitarian. We like how our TV lift fits right in. Our mechanisms are powder coated since we design these products for outdoor use in watercraft, beach homes, poolside locations and more. It’s just a little something we cooked up to make outdoor life more entertaining.

Or do you just have too much stuff in your cabinet to make room for a TV lift? At Nexus 21, we make mechanisms that have a remarkably slim profile. They don’t take up much space in a cabinet. However, they don’t technically have to go inside a cabinet to work. In fact, they operate just as well attached to the back of a cabinet or to the floor behind one. This client has way too many components and extra speakers inside their cabinet to find room for a lift. So, they chose to hide the popup TV behind it instead. That’s a great option if space is limited or you want to convert an existing piece of furniture quickly and easily without cutting out a lid. However, we can also recommend some of our larger Smart TV lift cabinets like the buffet sized Accent if you simply need more interior space to store all your stuff. It comes with the lift pre-installed, so setup is even easier.

Unless you’re talking about a dumbwaiter, that is. We were bragging on one of our hidden liquor cabinet lifts on FaceBook when Mark Delzer from BlueWater Technologies dropped by to say he’d done us one better. In a project he worked on, the homeowner wanted a lift that went down into the basement wine cellar to be loaded up (presumably by the butler) with a dozen bottles of the finest vintage. We can just imagine the homeowners entertaining guests at a soirée. “Oh, my! We seem to have run out of wine. Be a dear and fetch a few more bottles from our extensive collection?” “Of course, darling, let me just push this little button here…” Way to impress the guests!

In fact, Mark’s comment is giving us all kinds of ideas for using our new automated storage lifts in multi-story applications. Stay tuned for new and exciting ideas!

We’re proud to announce that yet another major industry publication has recognized our efforts to make automated home living look and feel even better. Our lifts are now featured at CE Pro’s blog. It’s a great example of what happens when the right people and the right products come together. This clip features the owner and founder of Mary Fisher Designs. Mary is an amazing residential space planner who has discovered how to boost her business and wow her customers with our hidden storage lifts. Her portfolio is a study in how to create rooms where what you hide is just as beautiful as what you put on display. As you can imagine, her customers are thrilled with the way our products make it easy and affordable to save space while increasing the aesthetic appeal of a room. Check out the short video to see how Mary helped a homeowner stash kitchen appliances out of sight but not out of reach.
